How to Survive the Tsunami in Throw An Egg (Escape the Chase and Save Your Egg)

The giant tsunami chases you home after every throw in Throw An Egg. Learn to recognize the chase, sprint back to your plot, and place the egg before the wave catches you.

The second your egg lands in Throw An Egg, the chase starts: you carry the egg you just threw while a giant tsunami runs you down. The fix is simple — turn straight around, sprint back to your own plot, and place the egg down before the wave reaches you. Placed in time, the egg hatches. Caught by the wave, the egg is gone.

Throw An Egg gameplay: a player launching a giant red egg

Recognize the chase

Every throw ends the same way: throw the egg as far as you can, then run from the giant tsunami. You're carrying that egg the whole way home, so the wave is chasing you — and two things on screen tell you the chase is on:

  • A top-of-screen indicator shows the tsunami chasing you, so you can keep an eye on it while you run.
  • A speed label on the wave, such as "extra fast," tells you how fast it's coming.

Know which direction your plot is before you throw. Players who start the run the wrong way hand the wave free time.

Escape back to your plot

There is one escape route: a straight run home.

  1. Run directly back to your plot. No detours — the egg you're carrying is the whole reward.
  2. Place the egg on your plot. That's the success condition: egg down before the wave hits you.
  3. Let it hatch. A placed egg hatches on your plot (see how hatching eggs works), and whatever comes out earns you money.

If the wave catches you before you place it, the egg is simply gone — which is exactly why speed matters.

Speed decides whether you make it

Whether you outrun the tsunami depends on your speed, and speed is bought, not given:

  • Speed upgrades come from the shop.
  • Trails add walking speed on top.

In one player's run, forgetting to buy speed upgrades before a throw meant they couldn't outrun the wave and lost a godly egg. After upgrading speed (and grabbing a trail), the wave stopped catching them.

Keep two habits:

  • Upgrade speed before chasing long throws. The farther your throw lands, the longer the run home — see how to throw farther without losing the egg on the way back.
  • Re-buy speed after every rebirth. Rebirthing drops your speed back down (it resets money and strength too), and forgetting to re-upgrade before a throw has cost players their eggs.

As for the wave itself: a player who compared zones in a single session found it chased at about the same speed in each one, so a new zone doesn't necessarily mean a faster tsunami — but always read the label when the chase starts.

Pre-throw checklist

  • Speed upgraded in the shop (again after any rebirth)
  • A trail equipped once you can afford one
  • You know the way back to your plot

Speed upgrades and trails cost cash. If you're still building up the basics, the Throw An Egg beginner guide covers the full loop, and you can top up funds with our guide to earning money plus a quick boost from the current codes.
